Why We Make Our Own Chemicals for FlexArmor RV Roofs

If you're researching RV roof repair or replacement, you're probably thinking about leaks, costs, and how long your next roof will last. Who makes the chemicals may not be the first question you ask. But it helps explain what you're putting on your RV and who stands behind it.

If you’re researching RV roof repair or replacement, you’re probably thinking about leaks, costs, and how long your next roof will last. Who makes the chemicals may not be the first question you ask. But it helps explain what you’re putting on your RV and who stands behind it.

At FlexArmor, we manufacture our own polyurea, the material used in our sprayed RV roof system. We brought production in-house to better control the product that carries our name and protects our customers’ RVs.

It was a big step. Here’s why we took it.

Why RV roof chemistry matters

An RV roof has a demanding job. It travels down the highway, moves with the vehicle, and spends plenty of time exposed to sun and weather. The material matters, but so does how it bonds to the roof beneath it.

That’s why we developed FlexArmor specifically for RV roofs. Since 2005, we’ve built our system around the problems RV owners face, learning what works through years of application, testing, and refinement.

When you’re comparing RV roof coatings, the word “polyurea” only tells you part of the story. The formulation, surface preparation, primers, application process, and installer training all affect the finished roof.

We didn’t always manufacture our own product

For much of our history, a specialty chemical manufacturer custom-blended FlexArmor for us. They made it to our requirements rather than selling it as a general-purpose coating off the shelf.

That distinction wasn’t always obvious to an RV owner comparing sprayed roof options. From the ground, two applications can look similar. What you don’t see is the development behind the material and the process used to install it.

Bringing production in-house gave us more direct control over our exclusive formula. It also made that difference easier to explain: we make the material used in the roof system we’ve spent more than two decades developing.

Taking control of quality and supply

The turning point came after an ownership change at our blending company. We became concerned about changes in quality and service. Depending on another company’s production decisions no longer felt right for a product we were responsible for backing.

Then the original owner offered to teach us how to take over production ourselves. We accepted.

Making our own chemicals meant taking on more responsibility, from raw materials to production and supply. It gave us a more direct role in maintaining the standards we expect and supporting the applicators who rely on our product.

For us, the reason was straightforward: if our name is on the roof, we want a say in what goes into it.

Protecting the formula and the process

Our chemistry and application methods were developed together. Keeping production in-house also helps us protect that knowledge and keep the formula connected to the process it was designed for.

A coating supplier and a complete RV roofing system offer different things. The material is important, but it needs to work with the preparation, installation, and support behind it.

A complete system for RV roof repair and replacement

Most RV owners don’t want a chemistry lesson. They want to stop worrying about their roof and get back to planning the next trip. We understand that.

That’s why we look at the whole job. FlexArmor brings together our RV-specific material, proprietary preparation methods, trained, authorized applicators, and post-installation support. Learn more about how FlexArmor is installed.

If you’re dealing with RV roof leaks or considering RV roof replacement, the condition of the existing roof matters. An authorized applicator must inspect it and discuss any necessary repairs before installation. Spraying a new roof over unresolved water damage isn’t the answer.

The goal is a properly prepared, professionally installed, seamless roof. FlexArmor also comes with a lifetime transferable no-leak warranty, subject to its terms. Review the FlexArmor warranty for coverage details.

What to ask when comparing sprayed RV roofs

Before choosing an RV roof repair solution, ask a few questions:

  • Was the material developed specifically for RV roofs?
  • How do they inspect and prepare the roof before application?
  • What training does the installer receive?
  • Who supports the installation, and what does the written warranty cover?

Those answers will tell you more than the name of the chemical alone.

Why we chose to make it ourselves

We brought production in-house to take more responsibility for the product, the process, and the people applying it. That decision grew out of firsthand experience and a simple commitment: we want to stand behind what goes on your roof.
