Inside the Install: Indian Point RV Roofing’s FlexArmor Upgrade

At FlexArmor, we’re here to share what goes on behind the scenes, especially when an install requires a little extra problem-solving. Recently, Tim and Valerie Woodrum, owners of Indian Point RV Roofing, took on a unique FlexArmor project that came with layers of unexpected challenges.

With the right approach, strong communication, and support from the FlexArmor team, the results were a major win for the customer and their RV.

The Problem: Pooling Water & Electrical Risks

This project began with a 2017 Dynamax Super C DX3 that had both roof-mounted and dummy awnings. The design created a major issue: water couldn’t flow freely off the roof. Instead, it was forced to drain through narrow areas at the front, back, and center, which caused water to pool for extended periods.

Over time, this poor drainage led to fiberglass delamination and even electrical issues. Water had made its way into a compartment that controlled the RV’s slide-outs, causing them to extend while the RV was in motion. “That’s scary when you’re driving down the road,” Valerie said. It was clear this wasn’t going to be a standard roof replacement.

The Strategy: Planning Ahead With FlexArmor Support

Knowing they were dealing with something outside the norm, Valerie and her team prioritized preparation. They took detailed photos and reached out to FlexArmor’s COO and lead trainer, Gary Peterson, to walk through the project before starting. “He gave us guidance and procedures for how to approach something we hadn’t seen before,” Valerie said.

Gary not only provided advice, but he also traveled to the shop and spent time on-site during the install to offer hands-on training and support. Indian Point also kept the customer informed every step of the way.

A team member first reviewed the RV at the customer’s campsite, and later, the customer visited the shop to get a closer look at the damage. Once work began, the team communicated daily and shared updates, photos, and progress in real time.

The Solution: Smarter Design & Long-Term Protection

To solve the drainage problem, Indian Point used FlexArmor’s proprietary stud system. This allowed them to slightly lift the dummy awnings, creating space for water to run off the roof instead of collecting beneath them.

They also used FlexArmor’s new plumbing vent caps – an upgrade from traditional vents that made installation easier and offered a more secure, spray-friendly design. Together, these changes provided a long-term solution to the original roof issues.

On top of the functional improvements, the team made sure the RV looked great, too. They preserved the customer’s bright blue color scheme, which was a personal favorite. “They loved the color, and we made sure it still looked really nice,” Valerie said

The Result: One Happy Customer & One Solid Roof

After careful planning and a custom approach, the RV was returned with a fully repaired roof and no remaining signs of the original damage. The drainage issue was resolved, and the electrical systems were no longer at risk from water intrusion.

The customer appreciated the level of detail throughout the process, from the clear communication to the effort made in preserving the RV’s appearance. With everything completed to their expectations, they left confident in the work and ready to get back on the road.
