Insurance is there to help us cover a major expense when something unexpected happens. Specialized RV insurance covers more than normal car insurance. There are some important factors to know when it comes to your RV insurance and what it covers. It is important to read your policy and understand the coverage. Upon arrival for a new roof, FlexArmor locations have informed consumers of damage caused by outside forces which led to an insurance approved roof replacement.
Insurance could cover your new RV Roof
When you damage your RV roof by a collision, the insurance company will pay for a new roof replacement. The collision can be with a tree, a building, a sign or any low hanging obstacle. This type of collision commonly tears the roof on the radius. Tears on the radius lead to a roof replacement by the insurance company. A hole poked in the membrane on the wide flat surfaces receives a patch. Damage like this would be from a tree branch falling down on the roof. Damage caused by storms or collision, insurance covers the roof, substrate and any damaged fixtures located on the roof. When you discover a tree branch punctured your roof on your last camping trip, you can still submit the claim.
Spend your check on the right RV Roof
When an insurance company writes the check for a roof replacement, it is consider to the be the end of the claim. Insurance companies, by law, do not restrict customers to roof type or repair facilities. Once the roof is paid for, the insurance company has no further liability. Research on roof types and repair facilities is the best protection a customer has against further roof issues. Finding out after the fact that a product does not meet expectations leaves the customer repairing the repair job at their own expense.
Insurance won’t pay for maintenance related leaks
Insurance companies do not pay claims on situations that are considered maintenance. Customers typically make claims for leaks that have occurred around caulking joints. Claims related to caulking are denied on a regular basis because the policy puts these type of situations under failed maintenance. Other maintenance related situations would be water damage from old a/c gaskets, cracked skylights or uncaulked, exposed screws.

we have several punctures caused by collision with tree branches that went undetected for several months. water seeped in causing an area of dry rot. Insurance has denied our claim for a roof replacement and is only welling to pay the cost of patching the roof. clearly not possible at this point, we are in the middle of appealing the process. Can you offer any advice?
It’s good you are appealing the insurance company decision. Once the membrane is punctured and wood is rotted, the only way to fix it correctly is to start over with a new roof. Patches do not hold up. You have to have new wood for the glue to work. I suggest looking for articles from rubber roof companies in the proper way to fix a damaged roof to back up your arguments.
I returned from a 4600 mile trip, and discovered my roof membrane had slid back from the front cap. Would this constitute a replacement, or a repair. 2014 year model.
This would be a repair.

What is a general estimate for a replacement on a 2016 Crossroads Rezerve 5th wheel?
35′
I have an estimate for a epdm roof, wanting to know difference.
Estimates vary slightly between shops (cost of shipping chemicals and labor costs effect the price per foot). You can request a quote from the shop that is most convenient to you here: https://rvroof.com/get-a-quote/ If there is more than one shop close to you, go ahead and request an estimate from each of them.
A tree branch fell onto my RV roof puncturing it. I have insurance that has agreed to replacement the roof in which they retain 33% of the total cost of the replaced roof plus the deductible. Is this a common practice or am I getting hosed? Thanks
That is all dependent on the company and your policy. They all have different coverages and procedures.
We just bought a used camper and found out it has a bad leak and water damage will our insurance cover it or can we get the people to refund us
In our experience, insurance only covers damage to the roof that occurred while you owned it. As for a refund, that is entirely up to the person that sold it to you. We wish you good luck with everything!
We recently bought our camper this year in June. Went to put the cover on it for winter and noticed a tear on the corner edge of the roof. Taking it to camping world next weekend to have them look it over. They said the roof tears are not normally covered under warranty, but we haven’t hit anything or had any type of collision with anything at all…hoping they see that it’s a defect and fix it under warranty instead of having to file a claim with the insurance company! Things just aren’t built the way they used to be anymore.
Progressive will only insure 6 years of roof protection. Anything older they wont insure.. just called them.
We aren’t sure what you mean by that. We do Progressive roofs all the time, of all ages. Many are over 6 years old.
Progressive will not cover a roof replacement if it is a “breakdown” of the roof itself, unless it is less than 6 years old and you have the additional coverage, however, if the damage is from a collision, such as hitting a tree at the roof line while the RV is moving, then they will replace the roof under the collision coverage. The less than 6-year requirement is only if the roof itself FAILS, and you have the additional coverage (extra premium).
Thank you for clarifying that!
Our insurance isn’t covering our RV roof that was taken off during a storm- they are saying since we don’t have receipts from caulking it that it isn’t covered.
